Stan Cottrell is seen as an ultra-distance runner, but his personality is even above than that. Indeed, he has been continuously involved in activities that inspired many people and put smile on many faces. Besides spreading the message of peace and tranquillity through his “Friendship runs”, he has devoted most of his races he ran throughout his life for the upliftment and betterment of humanity. He ran for several charities apart from running many races for providing hope, help and encouragement to orphans. His runs hold an immense power of unifying and motivating people that brings them together.
Stan Cottrell is a warm-hearted, motivational, and energetic personality. And, he is a life-long runner with multi-cultural awareness. He has been recognized and praised for his unconditional contribution towards society and humanity by different Presidents and Kings. He has also made several television appearances. In the early days, he ran ultra-distances in the South to provide benefits to health charities, this was the time when no one knew what the long distance ‘adventure run’ was. His Ethiopia run was aimed at supporting bio-farming, and green building along with initiatives to help youth farmers, women, orphans, and communities through ‘Peace and Green Initiative for Africa’ (PGIA).
He is recognized as the door-opener of sports with a humble, receptive heart and perseverance. He has abolished many walls of misunderstanding and fear along the way he ran. One such his run was from Hanoi to DaNang, Vietnam, where he ran with several hardships, hurdles and scrutiny, but completed his run in this “former enemy” country. He was successful in arousing a feeling of common humanity with an understanding of forgiveness and mutual caring among many generous people of that country, who had suffered much. The result was so surprising that he was even welcomed by the Minister of Justice/Peace Negotiator of the country.
Another example is the run from the Great Wall of China to Guangzhou, China, where Stan ran his last thousand miles in severe pain with two broken vertebrae and completed the run as so many people were hopping on him. And the end result? He was honoured by political leaders, high-level Chinese businessmen, and Mao’s daughter. Stan has not only appeared in Guinness world records but he has also been acknowledged for his hard work, loyalty towards humanity and kindness by different high-level personalities of the world. Recognizing his work, he has also been captured in pictures with many prime ministers and presidents that bespeak his contribution towards social friendship and fraternity.
